There is no doubt that timber is the single most sustainable construction material available, provided it is sourced in a responsibly managed fashion. Timber has many admirable characteristics as a construction material:
- Low embedded energy
- High thermal efficiency
- Easily recycled and can actually produce energy through combustion
Wolseley UK has held multi-site Chain of Custody certification for our Build Center brand since January 2004. These branches are now able to offer a choice of over 4,000 stocked products with FSC or PEFC endorsement. Chain of Custody Certification is a globally recognised and independently regulated accreditation. It provides documented evidence that products originate from certified, well managed forests and also verifies that these products are not mixed with products from uncertified forests at any point in the supply chain.
