Developments in new lighting products - as the SBC will demonstrate - are contributing to a decrease in the demand for electricity in lighting. While the efficiency and effectiveness of electric lighting has increased at an average of 5% per annum since their introduction in 1880, the rate has substantially improved during the last 30/40 years. Today we provide twice as much light to a space for less than half the electric power used in the 1970's. There is every reason to believe that lighting is one of the most energy conservation sensitive services provided for mankind.
