Eco Range of External Windows and DoorsEco Range of External Windows and Doors

To obtain a high thermal resistance in windows and doors there are several steps of improvement that can be undertaken. Clearly double glazing is superior to single glazing in terms of preventing heat loss and triple glazing is, by and large superior to double glazing. Performance is also affected by the gas used to fill the sealed units and the material used to manufacture the surrounds. Metal doors and windows are generally more conductive around the frames and hence are less energy efficient. Timber and uPVC are similar in performance and choice is a matter of personal preference. However, uPVC is a plastic based on chlorine chemistry, which has a high environmental impact and is toxic in its production and disposal and has a high-embodied energy.

Wolseley offer a complete range of windows and doors from Jeld Wen but the recommendation for a good sustainable and economic performance is a triple glazed, argon filled product featuring a timber surround from managed sources and a low toxicity preservative. Wolseley have worked with Jeld Wen to produce a sustainable high performance window which is available now.
