The Cobiax slab is reinforced with a steel mesh which is laid over the top of the plastic spheres before the concrete is poured. This use of the steel in a preformed sheet which could then be rolled out on top of the slab had never been used before and proved to be time saving and easy to fit. The steel gives the Cobiax slab further strength so that it can span wide spans with little support.
