The timber structure continues to develop on the north side of the building with the construction of the room partitions. All the timber used is PEFC certified and is supplied by FinnForest.
The wall construction in the Northern Wing introduces a radically innovative use of Finnjoist i-beams from Finnforest which are normally used in flooring and ceiling systems. Engineered and factory produced to give uniform strength, rigidity, size and weight, these engineered wood products outperform traditional solid wood construction. Produced at reduced moisture content these engineered wood products are some of the most stable on the market today. The Finnjoist is a prime example, with a high quality OSB web and flanges made of Kerto (LVL), delivering less dimensional change over time.
The I-joist unit at King's Lynn in the UK makes beams with I-shaped cross-section profiles, mainly for use in the ground and intermediate floors of buildings and in roof construction. The benefit of UK manufacture is reflected in lower embodied energy.
The I-joist with its Kerto flange and high quality OSB panels has a high strength to weight ratio and therefore produces lighter, longer spans combined with quick and easy installation, so reducing your build time and increasing efficiency.
