A huge difference can be seen in perceived progress with the simultaneous installation of both the Finnjoists and the Hanson Twin Wall. Both products bring valuable sustainable characteristics to the building but in very different ways.
The Finnjoists are being used in a uniquely innovative vertical plain as wall joists where their performance strengths can be utilised. Finnjoist I-beams are made in Boston, Lincs, the I-joist with its Kerto flange and high quality OSB panels, has a high strength to weight ratio and therefore produces lighter, longer spans combined with quick and easy installation, so reducing build time and increasing efficiency.
The prefabricated wall panels of Hanson Twin Wall comprising two slabs connected by means of cast-in lattice girders to form a single unit into which concrete is poured on site, Hanson's Twin Wall is a fully flexible walling system that combines the speed and quality of pre-cast concrete with the structural and waterproof integrity of a continuously poured in situ concrete structure.
The Twin Wall panels were specified for the main galleries to exploit the thermal mass of the exposed material, used in conjunction with a secured, natural ventilation cooling strategy to remove the need for energy intensive air-con. Twin Wall in particular minimises site wastage (of both concrete and shuttering) as it is permanent formwork, keeping insitu works to a minimum. The factory precast panels also minimise the need for additional finishes.
